I went with a co-worker to Midwood Smokehouse for lunch. They have two locations. The original one is in the Plaza Midwood area on Central Avenue, just North of The Plaza, and a new location in Ballantyne, just off Johnston Road. They both have a cleaned up, classic BBQ vibe with a hip twist.
The Plaza Midwood one feels a little rougher around the edges and more colorful. The Ballantyne location is cleaner feeling, but has plenty of character for the neighborhood. Each location is right for different people. Between the two everyone will find their home.
Having been to Midwood Smokehouse before, I thought I would try the tacos with layers of flavor and textures. Each bite was an exploration and a party in my mouth.
My co-worker went with the classic Bar-B-Que sandwich with a side of their fun, full flavored, bacon wrapped jalapenos. We each got their baked beans, which may be one of the best things on the menu!
If you are shopping for houses in Plaza Midwood or Ballantyne, make sure you put this on your must-eat list. Get to know local food in the neighborhood you’ll soon call home.
