Neighborhood Spotlight: MoRA

Searching for an up-and-coming Charlotte area that has easy access to uptown, friendly neighbors, and still-affordable housing? Look no further than MoRA.
Located in Southeast Charlotte between Sharon-Amity and Sardis Road North, MoRA is a hidden gem that’s bursting with new development. The most ambitious project in the works is the mixed-use development Meridian Place. The master plan features restaurants, shops, apartments, and offices, and is anchored by a new Hawthornes’s Pizza location. Other businesses recently added or coming to MoRA include City Barbecue, Queen City Yoga, Hef’s Bar and Grill (formerly located on Montford Drive), and a totally renovated Cinemark Movie Bistro that boasts ridiculously comfortable reclining seating, tons of craft beer on tap, wine, and a menu that will please the whole family.
MoRA is also home to New Zealand Cafe, one of Charlotte’s best sushi restaurants, a fantastic fresh seafood market, Deep Sea, and an amazing, tucked-away café, the Community Culinary School of Charlotte. A non-profit organization that teaches culinary skills to individuals with barriers to employment, the Community Culinary School serves an amazing breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. If you’re looking for recreation, head over to McAlpine Creek Park for a jog, do some indoor rock climbing at Inner Peaks, or puzzle your way out of a locked room with a group of friends at Escape Hour.
MoRA’s neighborhoods, mostly built between the mid-1950s to the late 1970s, feature sizeable lots, solid construction, and diverse, family- and community-oriented neighbors. As of November 2016, the average price of a single-family home in East Forest, Woodberry Forest, or McClintock Woods is around $200,000. Townhomes and condos in Abbotts Glen, Apple Tree Village, and Stonehaven range from $80,000 to $120,000.
With quick access to Independence, Monroe Road, and the Rama/Fairview/Tyvola corridor, you can get anywhere you need to be in Charlotte in a relatively short amount of time. Need to get to NoDa, Southpark, uptown, or UNC Charlotte in 20 minutes or less? Move to MoRA.
