Our Top Three Charlotte Bakeries

“Absolutely eat dessert first. The thing that you want to do the most, do that.” -Joss Whedon

Almost everyone likes sweets, but if you’re in the small majority that manages to curb temptation, even you may have a craving for a cookie every now and again. If you don’t like to clutter your kitchen with multiple flour bags and other kitchen appliances (or you just can’t bake), rest assured there’s a Charlotte bakery out there that carries delectable desserts to satisfy your confection craving. While there are a multitude of delicious bakeries in the Charlotte area, we here at Charlotte Life & Home would like to help make the job of choosing a good bakery easier for you. Here are our three favorites in the Charlotte area.

1) Sunflour Baking Company

This lovely bakery has three locations, two in Charlotte in the Elizabeth and South End areas and another in Harrisburg. Sunflour serves up delicious desserts in addition to great iced coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches for those early mornings. One of the best things about this bakery is the ability to call ahead and pick up big orders for those office parties around the holidays.

2) Amelie’s French Bakery and Cafe

If you’ve been a Charlotte resident for a while, you’re familiar with this French bakery that has one of the most famous desserts in the Queen City – The Salted Caramel Brownie. This tiny delight provides just the right amount of sweet and salty that will keep you coming back for more. The bakery also offers other savory items like bread pudding and offers great breakfast sandwiches and lunch options as well.

*Fun fact: Amelies created all the gorgeous desserts served on the train’s dining car en route to the capitol of Panem in the first Hunger Games movie.

3) Nova*s Bakery and Coffee Shop

Nova*s is another small local chain bakery that offers some of the best homemade breads in town. They also do custom cakes for big events for your office or birthday party, just give them about a week’s notice. What separates them from the rest is their variety of coffee and drink selections, so if you’re in need of a place to sit down and get a good caffeinated beverage, check out Nova*s. And if you’re one of those healthy individuals that manages to keep their cravings at bay most of the time, try out the Glorious Morning Muffin. It has carrots and raisins in it, and that makes it a healthy option, right? (I’m going to keep telling myself that.)

There are plenty of Charlotte eateries that can satisfy your sweet tooth, which made paring the list down to these three almost impossible. Do yourself a favor and drop into one of these fine establishments today, have a cookie for us, and let us know if we missed your favorite bakery!
